People with measles spread the virus through the air when they cough, sneeze, or breathe. Measles is a disease caused by a highly contagious virus. People with measles spread the virus through the air when they cough, sneeze or breathe.<\/p><ul><li>View <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/health\/health-education\/acute-disease-service\/rash-illness\/measles.html\">Measles Information (OSDH)<\/a> from the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Exposure notifications will be posted as they are identified. However, outbreaks still occur as unvaccinated travelers come back to the U.S. from places were measles is still common.\u00a0 Anyone who has not been fully vaccinated or had measles before can get measles.<\/p><p>CDC considers you protected from measles if you have written documentation (records) showing at least\u00a0one\u00a0of the following:<\/p><ul><li>You received two doses of measles-containing vaccine, and you are a(n)<ul><li>school-aged child (grades K-12)<\/li><li>adult who will be in a setting that poses a high risk for measles transmission, including students at post-high school education institutions, healthcare personnel, and international travelers.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>You received one dose of measles-containing vaccine, and you are a(n) \u2014<ul><li>preschool-aged child<\/li><li>adult who will not be in a high-risk setting for measles transmission.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>A laboratory confirmed that you had measles at some point in your life.<\/li><li>A laboratory confirmed that you are immune to measles.<\/li><li>You were born before 1957. You are presumed to be protected against measles. Before vaccines were available, nearly everyone was infected with measles during childhood and developed protective, lifelong immunity.<\/li><\/ul><p><b>How do I get a copy of my shot record?<br \/><\/b>Anyone needing a copy of their vaccination records can <a style=\"font-size: 19.2px\" href=\"https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/health\/services\/personal-health\/immunizations\/imm-shot-records\/imm-osiis.html\">go online<\/a><span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 19.2px;color: var( --e-global-color-text )\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;font-size: 19.2px;color: var( --e-global-color-text )\">for a digital copy of their record or\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 19.2px\" href=\"https:\/\/tulsa-health.org\/services\/testing-and-immunizations\/vaccines\/\">visit a THD Immunization Clinic<\/a>\u00a0for a printed copy of their record.<\/p><p><em>Please note: This applies to vaccines entered in the Oklahoma State Immunization Information System (OSIIS), and does not include all vaccines administered by pharmacies, federal and tribal entities.<\/em><b><br \/><\/b><\/p><p><b>Do I need a booster vaccine?<br \/><\/b><span style=\"background-color: var( --e-global-color-43edc70 );color: var( --e-global-color-text );font-size: 1.2rem\">No. CDC considers people who received two doses of measles vaccine as children according to the U.S. vaccination schedule protected for life, and they do not ever need a booster dose.<\/span><\/p><p>If you\u2019re not sure whether you are fully vaccinated, you should work with their health care provider to determine their immunity status to measles and discuss whether an additional dose of the MMR vaccine is necessary.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4708ef4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-menu-anchor\" data-id=\"4708ef4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"menu-anchor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-menu-anchor\" id=\"symptoms\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d15af8d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d15af8d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>SYMPTOMS<\/h2><p>Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes and rash. These early symptoms begin to appear about 7-14 days after a person is infected, but it can be as long as 21 days. Koplik spots (tiny white spots inside the mouth) can appear 2 to 3 days after symptoms begin. Symptoms may last for one to two weeks.<\/p><p>Measles can be serious in all age groups, however, children younger than 5 years of age, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness and complications. Some people who become sick with measles also get a serious lung infection, such as pneumonia. Although severe cases are rare, measles can cause swelling of the brain and even death.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d4250ed elementor-widget elementor-widget-menu-anchor\" data-id=\"d4250ed\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"menu-anchor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-menu-anchor\" id=\"exposure\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-39662a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"39662a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>What to do if you have symptoms or have been exposed:<\/h2><p>If you are concerned about having measles symptoms or exposure, immediately call your healthcare provider and let them know that you have been exposed to someone who has measles. Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles if exposed to the virus. One dose is about 93% effective.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 19.2px\">Measles can be prevented with MMR vaccine.
