TULSA, OK \u2013 [October 26, 2017] \u2013\u00a0Tulsa County residents are encouraged to empty medicine cabinets, bedside tables, and kitchen drawers of unwanted, unused, and expired prescription drugs for a local prescription drug take-back day on Saturday, October 28.<\/p>\n
The event will take place at from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Reasor\u2019s at 71st & Sheridan.<\/p>\n
The purpose of a take-back day is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications. This service is free and anonymous. No syringes, inhalers or liquids will be accepted.<\/p>\n
\u201cPrescription drug abuse and overdose is a serious problem in Tulsa County,\u201d said Marianne Long, Tulsa Health Department program manager. \u201cKeeping unused and outdated medications in your home may allow them to be stolen or fall into the wrong hands.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, two-thirds of teens who report abuse of prescription medicine are getting it from friends, family and acquaintances.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important to make sure the teens in your life don\u2019t have access to your medicine,\u201d said Long.<\/p>\n

Strategic Prevention Framework \u2013 Partnerships for Success (SPF-PFS)\u00a0
\nThe Tulsa Health Department\u2019s Strategic Prevention Framework \u2013 Partnerships for Success (SPF-PFS) program supports an array of activities that build a solid foundation for delivering and sustaining effective substance abuse prevention services. This grant-funded program works to prevent the onset and reduce the progression of the non-medical use of prescription drugs in ages 12-25, reduce substance abuse related problems in communities, and build prevention capacity and infrastructure at the state, tribal and community levels.
