TULSA, OK \u2013 [June 10, 2016] \u2013\u00a0The Tulsa Health Department and Community Service Council\u2019s Healthy Start programs are teaming up again to host the second annual free Men\u2019s Health Summit on Saturday, June 11th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Regional Health and Wellness Center, 5635 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.<\/p>\n
Sports broadcaster for Cox Cable and former University of Tulsa basketball player Rod Thompson will deliver the keynote address.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes as men, we don\u2019t take our health as serious as we should,\u201d said Reggie Ivey, chief operating officer at the Tulsa Health Department. \u201cThe Men\u2019s Health Summit not only provides men resources to live a healthy lifestyle for themselves but also their family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along with Thompson, attendees will have the opportunity to ask local doctors questions during a panel discussion.<\/p>\n
The summit\u2019s target audience is men but there are activities for the entire family including games, prizes, a picnic, health screenings and basketball competitions.<\/p>\n

Healthy Start
\nHealthy Start works to help reduce Tulsa\u2019s infant mortality rate by providing healthy messages and support for the entire family. The federally funded program also seeks to ensure continuity of care for women and children. In addition, the Healthy Start program is committed to improving the father, parent-child relationship through fatherhood engagement. Our Fatherhood Program promotes this philosophy by linking fathers to resources that strengthen the role for the involvement of the father. This is done by organizing a group of individuals who provide preventive services and resources to new and expectant fathers, as well as to existing fathers and those who are committed to making the family healthier.<\/p>\n
