TULSA, OK \u2013 [November 14, 2022] \u2013 The Tulsa Health Department (THD) will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the North Regional Health and Wellness Center (NRHWC) during a special reception on Friday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. Additionally, a public memorial honoring the late THD Division Chief of Adolescent and Child Health Pam Rask will be unveiled. Pam Rask was the site supervisor at the center from the time it opened until she passed away in December 2020. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPam was the epitome of what a public health professional is: strong, courageous, dedicated, and with the greatest heart for service I have ever met in my public health career,\u201d said THD Executive Director Dr. Bruce Dart. \u201cDuring Pam\u2019s nearly 35-year career at THD, she oversaw the development and implementation of community health programs to improve the health and well-being of Tulsa County residents. The impact of her leadership and legacy will carry on for generations to come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The center opened in late 2012 as the agency\u2019s first comprehensive health and wellness center, featuring preventive health services, primary care, and community health programming. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opening of the Tulsa Health Department\u2019s North Regional Health and Wellness Center was the culmination of years of community engagement, planning and research to build a state-of-the-art center to address the grave health disparities in the north Tulsa community,\u201d said THD Chief Operating Officer Reggie Ivey. \u201cThe most powerful way to achieve improvements in health is to target services and programs to those who experience systemic barriers to optimum health in their own community.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n
For the past decade, staff at the center have worked to address health disparities through preventive health services and education for families. The center also serves as a hub for community events and wellness activities like healthy cooking classes. Currently, primary care services are available onsite through a partnership with Crossover Health Services, a division of Crossover Community Impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The modern, 30,000-square-foot facility includes 12 exam rooms, several waiting areas, and staff offices in an easy-to-navigate environment.\u202f\u202fThe overall design concept and location of the Health Center was adopted following significant community input. Funding for the $8.2 million project was made through local and private funds. The center is also home several prevention programs,\u202fincluding tobacco reduction, substance abuse prevention, teen pregnancy prevention and school health.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The anniversary event and memorial unveiling is open to the public, but space is limited, and registration is required. Anyone interested in attending can complete an online registration to secure their spot. \u00a0<\/p>\n
