TULSA, OK\u00a0\u2013\u00a0[May 30, 2019] \u2013\u00a0The Tulsa Health Department reminds residents of the dangers of floodwater and standing floodwater, along with important safety tips for reentering flooded properties.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone should avoid contact with floodwater,\u201d said THD Executive Director Dr. Bruce Dart. \u201cIt\u2019s extremely dangerous to be near moving floodwater, and standing water can be just as bad. It puts you at risk for infectious diseases, chemical hazards and injuries. Do not allow children to play in the floodwater.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Tulsa Health Department immunization clinics are currently offering tetanus shots at no cost to anyone affected by the weather events in Tulsa County. Visit\u00a0www.tulsa-health.org\/vaccines\u00a0or call 918-582-9355 for hours and locations. You are protected if you have received a tetanus shot in the last 10 years, unless your wound is severe. Anyone who receives a puncture wound or a wound contaminated with dirt, feces, or saliva should have a medical provider determine whether a tetanus booster is necessary based on individual records. Contact your health care provider or the Tulsa Health Department for recommendations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
THD and the\u00a0Oklahoma Caring Foundation\u2019s Caring Van will provide tetanus shots at no cost at the following locations. Bring your immunization records if you have them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
