TULSA, OK \u2013 [May 31, 2018] \u2013\u00a0More than 150 local educators, administrators, health professionals, parents and community leaders are scheduled to attend the 5th Annual Fit 2 Learn Summit: Rising above Challenges, Empowering Children to Achieve Healthy Futures held at OSU Center for Health Sciences, 1111 West 17th Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on June 5.<\/p>\n
The summit is designed to empower attendees with the knowledge, skills and strategies to improve health and wellness in their schools.<\/p>\n
This year’s keynote speaker will be Alyson Shoaf, MAEd, who will focus on the importance of recess.\u00a0 Participants will gain an understanding of how recess is defined by Shape America and CDC, along with the benefits of recess.\u00a0 Shoaf will also present two breakout sessions: Planning, Implementing and Evaluating Recess Programs with an Emphasis on Recess before Lunch and Creating Recess Programs with All Students in Mind.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a free conference designed to empower attendees with the knowledge, skills and strategies to improve their school’s overall health and wellness,\u201d said Vicki Lentz Wagner, TSET Healthy Living Program Specialist. \u201cIt’s an opportunity for individuals working in schools to come together and learn and to be supported. It’s a day where ideas are exchanged and shared and collaboration and synergy occur. Research has shown that healthy students are better learners!\u201d<\/p>\n
The summit will also offer a wide variety of breakout sessions including implementing nutrition into the classroom, implementing physical activity into the classroom, ABLE athletes (bridging the gap between able and disabled), farm to school, staff wellness, healthy celebrations and fundraisers, farm to you, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and community eligibility provision (CEP) among others.<\/p>\n
