THD behält den Status der nationalen Akkreditierung.

Tulsa, Okla. – The Tulsa Health Department (THD) announced today that it has successfully completed a rigorous review process to maintain its national accreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). THD has remained continuously accredited since 2013.

By securing this status for another five years, THD demonstrates that it meets PHAB’s stringent quality standards and possesses the capacity to evolve and advance the health of Tulsa County residents.

“We are proud to be one of the few health departments in the nation to once again be recognized by PHAB for achieving standards that foster effectiveness and continuous quality improvement,” said Executive Director Dr. Bruce Dart. “This distinction assures everyone in Tulsa County that our programs and services remain highly responsive to the needs of our community.”

The non-profit PHAB works to advance and transform public health practice by championing performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation. PHAB’s accreditation program, which receives support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sets the national benchmarks for governmental public health departments. THD first achieved accreditation in August 2013, after undergoing a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process to ensure it met a set of quality standards and measures. Today’s announcement reinforces that the agency is not just meeting a baseline but is effective at improving community health outcomes.

As a locally funded and governed city-county agency, THD has served Tulsa County for 75 years. From Skiatook to Bixby, and Sand Springs to Broken Arrow, and everywhere in between, the agency is deeply committed to protecting and supporting Tulsa County communities in pursuit of optimal health.

“We are pleased to see the Tulsa Health Department, along with many others, successfully maintaining their five-year PHAB accreditation,” said PHAB President and CEO Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, MD, MPH, FACEP. “This demonstrates that accreditation is not just a one-time achievement but an ongoing commitment to excellence. By maintaining accreditation, these health departments reaffirm their dedication to continuous improvement and community health.”

Often called the “backbone” of the public health system, public health departments are on the front lines of communities’ efforts to protect and promote health and prevent disease and injury. PHAB-accredited health departments demonstrate great leadership by placing their work for peer review, with the goal of using the feedback obtained during the process to improve the services they provide to their communities.
