Advocacy Campaign

The Tulsa Health Department’s School Health program offers an advocacy campaign focusing on helping students develop the skills to advocate for their own health and the health of others. It emphasizes effective communication, empathy and leadership to promote healthy behaviors at home, school and in the community.

The Advocacy Campaigns provide engaging lessons and activities that empower students with the health education skill of advocacy. Through these campaigns, students learn how to promote a safe and healthy school environment while building on existing initiatives such as teaching kindness and bullying prevention. Each campaign encourages students to take an active role in supporting their peers, standing up for positive behaviors and fostering a school culture where everyone feels safe, valued and included.

The Advocates for Kindness campaign helps PreK-2nd grades students practice the health skill of advocacy by showing how small acts of kindness can make their school a safe and healthy place to be. Through activities, students learn how to care for others, stand up for kindness and take an active role in creating a welcoming school environment.

The Bully Buster Assembly introduces students to the health skill of advocacy while showing how kindness helps keep schools safe. Performed by the Tulsa Drillers with special guest mascot Hornsby, this assembly engages PreK–2nd grade students through fun interactions and positive messaging. Students learn simple ways they can stand up for kindness, support their classmates and be advocates for a safe and healthy school environment.

The Bullying Prevention Advocacy Campaign equips students with the skills to recognize and stand up against bullying behaviors in order to help create a safe and supportive school environment. Through interactive activities, classes learn how advocacy can be used to protect themselves and others, build respect among peers and strengthen their role in keeping their school community safe and healthy.
