THD’s Food Safety Measures Protect 1M+ People at the Tulsa State Fair

TULSA, OK[September 22, 2025] – The Tulsa Health Department (THD) is preparing to protect the health of more than one million attendees at the Tulsa State Fair, ensuring fairgoers can enjoy their favorite foods without fear of contracting a foodborne illness. With more than 200 food booths to inspect, THD’s dedicated team is working hard behind the scenes to make sure every bite is a safe one.

THD’s team of food inspectors will be on-site every day of the fair. They will perform hundreds of food safety checks and offer hands-on education for vendors, focusing on safe food handling and proper handwashing. This comprehensive approach has a proven track record of protecting the public and ensuring compliance with state food safety regulations.

This year, THD inspectors will log more than 520 hours and complete an estimated 600 inspections during the fair’s 11-day run. The agency’s goal is to ensure every food booth earns its official THD sticker, which signals to fairgoers that the location has met safety standards to receive a license.

The work at the Tulsa State Fair is a key part of THD’s larger mission to safeguard public health across Tulsa County. THD’s inspectors work year-round, performing more than 16,500 inspections over the past two years in Tulsa County’s more than 4,800 retail food establishments.
