The Tulsa Health Department (THD) is focused on disease prevention and believes that the next line of defense for a healthier community is early detection of diseases. The Family Planning program at THD offers high-quality preventive reproductive health services to males and females of child bearing age.
Comprehensive family planning services offered at THD include physical examinations, laboratory services, pregnancy testing, contraceptives, counseling, and referrals for other THD and community services. Participants are informed of and educated about their options for birth control, including abstinence and natural family planning methods. Family planning services are confidential and offered in English, Spanish and Burmese.
THD is dedicated to providing services to the entire community and accepts most private insurances as well as Medicaid/Sooner Care. Clients who are uninsured or underinsured are charged for services based on family size and income. No one is denied services based on an inability to pay.
Family Planning services offer preventive health screenings for breast and cervical cancer by providing clinical breast exams and pap smears during physical exams. Additionally, the Family Planning program offers assistance with referrals for screening mammograms and/or treatment for breast or cervical cancer for clients that qualify; through programs such as Oklahoma Project Woman and the Oklahoma Cares Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment program.
Additional health screenings are available to Family Planning clients through the THD Adult Health program.
*Sterilization costs are based on eligibility requirements
