(Tulsa, OK) More than thirty Tulsa-area high school students will showcase their photography skills in a special exhibit, “Flash Focus: A Photo-Documentation Project about Health from the Perspective of Tulsa Youth,” on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, located at 111 East 1st Street, Tulsa, OK.
This year’s exhibit focuses on the relationship between health disparities and “food deserts,” or areas within the Tulsa community where affordable, healthy food is difficult to obtain. Food deserts have been linked to negative health impacts, including obesity and diabetes.
“Unfortunately, there are many residents within our community who have limited access to fresh produce and healthy food options. We hope that this project is able to bring attention to the problem by highlighting the areas where people are most in need.” stated Tulsa Health Department Director Dr. Bruce Dart.

All proceeds benefit the Community Health Foundation, a non-profit public charity that supports local public health initiatives such as childhood obesity prevention, child development, and other health prevention efforts.
