THD and Stop DUI Task Force Host ENDUI Walk

TULSA, OKLA – [March 19, 2024] – The Tulsa Health Department substance abuse prevention program has partnered with the Stop DUI Task Force to raise awareness of the impacts of drinking and driving during a walk to remember Tulsa County residents who died due to alcohol-related crashes.

The ENDUI Walk will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at McCullough Park, 1534 E. 25th St. The walk is free to attend and registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the park.

“Between 2019 and 2022, 92 Tulsa County residents died due to alcohol-related crashes,” said THD Prevention Specialist Kandice Lawson. “This walk will honor those who lost their lives and provide a welcoming space for families to remember their legacies. We also want to raise awareness that this remains a problem in our community that is completely preventable and unacceptable.”

Attendees will hear remarks from Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler, representatives from law enforcement, Victims of Impaired Driving, and families who have been impacted. After the speaking portion, attendees will walk a short loop in the park. Families may also choose to attend the Council of Safe Neighborhoods Easter event at the park at the conclusion of the walk.

Sponsors include Ascension St. John, the Council of Safe Neighborhoods, Oklahoma Alliance for Recovery Residences, Oklahoma ABLE Commission, Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.
