Free Cooking Demos

Eating healthy is easier than you think. Come learn new recipes and techniques for preparing delicious meals taught by a dietitian.

The Tulsa Health Department is pleased to offer these free cooking demonstrations to the community. These demos are hosted at our North Regional Health and Wellness Center, 56th & MLK Jr. Blvd, location that features a full demonstration kitchen. Each attendee will enjoy free samples of the dishes prepared and will take home recipe cards and educational handouts. Registration is required to attend.

Join us in June where we will focus on brain health.

Tues, June 4 | 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. | Hands-On Cooking for Kids: Youth attendees will make tasty zucchini pizza boats and delicious brownies – with a twist! Embark on an adventure in cooking under the guidance of our very own nutritionist. Children under 8 require an adult be present.

Thurs, June 13 | 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. | Nutrition for Your Brain: Come and learn to make walnut tacos, a delightfully nutritious dish with all the fixings and toppings that will support brain health. We will finish the evening with a refreshing smoothie.

Tues, June 18 | 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. | Hands-On Cooking for Kids: Youth attendees will learn to prepare enchiladas, a classic Mexican dish smothered with a homemade sauce! To complement the entrée, we are whipping up a Mexican fruit salad. Children under 8 require an adult be present.

Past Cooking Demos

Healthy Detox Wraps with Sprouts: In this hands-on class, participants will learn how to make the super nutritious sprouts to add to their own wraps. Take home a jar and start your own sprouts.

Vegetable Lasagna: This plant-based lasagna is savory and full of flavor.

Kids and Young Adults - Chipotle Bowls: Children will get hands on cooking experience making their own chipotle bowls with fresh ingredients. 

Cutting the Salt: Learn how to make a salt substitute and a curry seasoning that goes great on roasted vegetables and meats.

Kids and Young Adults - Homemade Chips and Dip: We will demonstrate how you can make crunchy salty snacks that will cut the sodium in half. Children under 8 years of age age require an adult to be present.

Meal Prep 101: Learn how to make delicious sauces that will help you prepare your meals on the go!

Air Fryer Cooking | Learn how to make healthy fish tacos three delicious ways using your air fryer.

Kids and Young Adults - Homemade Pizza and Toaster Pastries | We will demonstrate how you can make homemade toaster pastries and pizza that everyone will love. Children under 8 years of age require an adult to be present.

Charcuterie Board | Learn how to make a healthy charcuterie board while incorporating mindful eating techniques and learn more about how to read labels.

Sweet Treats for Kids and Young Adults | Learn how to make sweet treats that are delicious and nutritious! We will make white chocolate blondie brownies and easy homemade Snickers.

Meal Prep 101 | Learn the basics of meal prepping, portion sizes, and what a healthy plate looks like. We will turn roasted chicken into four different meals that are flavorful, filling and never boring!

Jamaican Jerk Bowls | Try these Caribbean-inspired recipes and bowls to detox your system while still satisfying your taste buds.

Kids Class - Chipotle Bowls |  Make your own Chipotle bowls with fresh ingredients where that the whole family can participate and enjoy.

Cutting the Sugar | This class is designed to help you take care of that sweet tooth while cutting the sugar and detoxing for the new year. Try delicious recipes that include cookies, pancakes and warm savory drinks.

Soups | Learn how to make easy and delicious soups and stews, take trip to North Africa and Italy to create Moroccan and Italian dishes that are rich in flavor and full of herbs and spices that are packed with nutrients.

Holiday Twist | Before Christmas re-imagine some of the classic holiday favorites that we all grew up loving with a delicious twist.

Soups | As the cold days of winter endure, there is nothing more comforting than a hearty bowl of soup. In this class, we will learn two different soups that work well for a hearty dinner and taste even better for lunch the next day! Watch the demo.

Using Quinoa and Chia | Quinoa and Chia seem to be everywhere, magazines, TV and social media, but what are they? We know they are good for us, but they may be a little intimidating if you don’t know how to use them. In this class, we will learn more about how to fit these two ingredients into our everyday meal planning.

Heart Health | Learn how to make delicious meals that are good for your taste buds and your heart. This class is for anyone interested in creating healthy meals that the entire family will enjoy. Watch the demo.

Breakfast for Dinner | Rethink your dinner plan by including some breakfast favorites! This is a great option for quick and healthy meals when you need a change up from your normal dinner rotation. Watch the demo.

Instant Pot: Dried Beans | Beans are excellent source of protein and fiber. Dried beans are not only a great source of protein and fiber, but they are also the most economical form of protein available. In this class we will learn how to prepare dried beans in a fraction of the time using an instant pot. Watch the demo.
